Alternative Sexual Healers
Alternative Healers – Sexological Bodyworkers
What is a Certified Sexological Bodyworker?
Certified Sexological Bodyworkers (CSB’s) are erotic educators, assisting individuals, couples and groups to deepen their experience of body aliveness. CSB’s are trained sexologists whose certification is approved by the State of California. They offer experiential learning opportunities that consciously access profound ecstatic states. Sexological Bodywork can involve a variety of instructive modalities, including breath work, touch, erotic massage, pelvic release bodywork, and masturbation coaching. One of the somatic realms that Sexological Bodyworkers introduce to students is a state of arousal that is free of fantasy, unfinished emotional business, religious dogma, cultural caveats and habitual sexual behaviors. In this state, an individual becomes aware of the body as a source of wisdom and of guidance. .
As the practitioner, do you remove your clothes?
I wear comfortable yoga clothes and remain clothed throughout the session. Touch is solely for educational benefit. The focus of the session is on your experience within your own body. I support you in staying focused on your body and your feeling states. All touch is focused on your body.
What about mutual touch and nudity?
By keeping the focus on your body, your desires and your responses, you gain much more than if you were to focus on giving or getting something from outside. You will not be touching the Bodyworker. You have the opportunity to experience the touch focused solely on you.
Sexological Bodywork Training
Practitioners learn a variety of Sexological Bodywork modalities, including male and female genital massage, sensate focus, anal massage, pelvic release work, breathwork, and Orgasmic Yoga coaching. Furthermore, participants experience how humans learn sex—through mindful, self-directed practice over time. They provide sex education to to individuals, couples and groups.
Skills include learning that the most profound sexual education is found through self-directed mindful practice over time: male and female genital massage, sensate focus, anal massage, pelvic release, breathwork, and Orgasmic Yoga: the use of touch, breath, and focused attention to become familiar with the flow of profound ecstatic and erotic states; body-based interventions to deal with sexual shame in themselves and in others; elements of erotic spirituality through studying erotic rituals including elements from Tantric, Taoist and Native American traditions; techniques to slow the kindling of erotic energy and blend that with mindful awareness; encourage and model effective communication and when to provide appropriate referrals to doctors, psychotherapists and other health care professionals.

Alternative Healers – Sacred Intimates
What is a Sacred Intimate?
A Sacred Intimate interacts with you in a way that provides you with an opportunity to learn about yourself erotically. The SI does not provide the experience. He or she provides the opportunity for you to have an experience. Experience is what happens inside your skin, within the nerve endings of your sensory receptors.. What the SI does with you happens outside your skin. SI’s provide guidance, interaction, often touch and sometimes intimacy, but how you experience all that within yourself – that is up to you. As an analogy, I can hand you a gift, but it’s up to you to open the package and take it.
An SI can help you learn how to bring the events outside your skin (often our touch) inside your skin – how to deepen your enjoyment of it, take it into your heart, heighten your awareness of sensuality, discover some new inner territory, find some insight or healing within your self. The point is your learning, healing, development, exploration, nourishment, discovery.
What Occurs in a Sacred Intimate Session?
Our work is experiential, as opposed to say, talk therapy or consulting, though we often include some measure of coaching. We work with the intersection of body, eros, emotion and spirit. We see the power of pleasure as a healing and transformative experience. However, the intention of touch with the Sacred Intimate is not ‘gratification’ or ‘entertainment’ but instead healing, awareness, transformation, inspiration, learning, self development and exploration of sensual, sexual, erotic and emotional experiences.
The main modalities used are movement, breath, touch, and teaching body awareness, consent, touch and sexual skills. The SI guides you through sensual, sexual and erotic experiences, keeping you safe and cared for, contributing to your experience and supporting your growth and learning.
Individual SI’s, like all people, make their own choices about what particular activities to engage in with any particular person at any particular time. So that may be anything from a conversation about what’s on your mind regarding your sexual life, to teaching you how to teach your husband how to touch you, to tantric or Taoist techniques for extended pleasure, to a healing massage, to a romantic sexual encounter.
There’s not really any precedent for it in our culture, that I know of. You have a therapist, maybe even a sex therapist, but s/he’s not going to touch you. You have a massage therapist, but s/he’s not going to ask how you feel the arousal from different kinds of touch. You have an escort, but she’s not likely to guide you any deeper into yourself than you already know how to go. You have a lover perhaps, but s/he has his own desires (and agenda) – not only for your play together, but for your relationship. You have a coach but s/he’s not comfortable talking about your sex life. Maybe you have a spiritual guide or counselor, but chances are s/he doesn’t know how to integrate sexual and spiritual experience.
SI Training
There is no licensure or certification for Sacred Intimates. Most SI’s bring to their work previous training in bodywork like massage, in therapeutic modalities like Somato-Respiratory Integration, Hakomi or Sexological Bodywork or various forms of breath work, yoga or meditation. Many also have training as counselors, therapists and coaches. The most significant training however is often our own lives and explorations. As a Sacred Intimate, we are also on our own erotic journey. Otherwise we would not be able to offer what we do because the work taps into our own erotic paths.
The term ‘Sacred Intimate’ originated with Joseph Kramer and the Body Electric School, which for many years conducted week-long intensive trainings open to those with prior experience.
Why Seek A Sacred Intimate?
Some people seek SI’s for help with specific sexual challenges, for healing of body memory, to become more emotionally comfortable with their own sexuality. Others seek SI’s for pleasure, joy and bliss. Individuals seek SI’s for coaching, learning and support, to explore a new aspect of their eroticism that they may not have yet experienced. for a nourishing respite from their stressful lives, or for the opportunity to connect skin-to-skin with a loving human being in a secure environment.
It is amazing what profound insights and pleasure can flow when an individual feels safe, relaxed and embraced. We all want to be loved, appreciated and accepted for who we are. In the illuminating light of acceptance, we grow into the fullness of our being—-and shine.
